Freud Distiller’s Cut Malt Whisky is a liquid homage to Freudenberg, the proud home of Ziegler's legendary distillery. This is their first whisky.
Ziegler's began as a brewery with distilling rights and evolved into a distillery offering a wide range of brandies and, now, whisky. Then as now, at their founding location in Freudenberg am Main, they dedicate themselves to creating outstanding products that delight top international restaurateurs and gourmets alike.
Freud Distiller's Cut Malt Whisky begins its ageing process in chestnut casks and in barrels that were used for maturing bourbon. Afterwards “Distiller’s Cut” mellows further in kegs that held Ziegler Old Plum brandy. The name pays homage to the poetry of this historic fruit brandy – the alchemical detail that makes Freud so precious to the whisky world.
The palate offers notes of toasted chestnuts, orange zest, green apples, honeysuckle, and vanilla. Plums and soft smoke then linger delicately in the finish.
With an alcohol content of 41.5% by volume, “Distiller’s Cut” is a complex yet pleasantly accessible malt whisky. It is equally delightful when sipped “neat” or in mixed drinks. An original and exciting drink, it's sure to enrich the collection of any fan of "New World" whisky.
