Portobello Road Gin is a classic London dry gin brewed in an artisan distillery in the trendy Portobello Road area of the city.
In 2011, three longtime friends, all ex-bartenders, came together to create a spirit that was uniquely versatile. They sought to develop a gin which had a depth of character that would stand out in a Negroni, have enough elegance to make a classic Martini, yet settle nicely with tonic water.
Portobello Road Gin has been created from a blend of nine completely natural botanicals from around the world. These include: juniper berries and orris from Tuscany, Spanish lemon peels, bitter orange peels from Haiti or Morocco, nutmeg from Indonesia and cassia bark from South East Asia.
On the front of the palate, this versatile gin has a generous slug of juniper. Following this, the mid-palate has a sustained, fresh citrus character from the use of lemon, bitter orange and coriander. This then develops into a sweet peppery finish, achieved by the use of liquorice and nutmeg.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Hot white pepper and heavy berries with plenty of juniper.
Palate: Well-integrated spice, again with a healthy dose of juniper. Soft lemon grass flavours, then joined by a hint of red berries.
Finish: Dry, fresh and cleansing citrus.
